Team Bristol

Our National Volleyball League Team

Team Bristol

The University of Bristol Volleyball Club started Team Bristol in the 2016/17 season when they entered a men's and women's team into the National Volleyball League. The teams started in Division 3 South West with the aim of moving their way through the leagues to allow the University students to compete at the highest level of English Volleyball.

THE TIMELINE

2021/22

As the club bounced back from the COVID-19 pandemic, this year saw the reintroduction of a women’s NVL team. A strong season saw the women’s team reach playoffs but just missed out on promotion, finishing 3rd in the league. The men’s team struggled to field a consistent team and ultimately finished 5th, missing out on playoffs. Both teams will remain in division 3 for the 22/23 season.

2019/20

This year the men joined forces with local university rivals UWE in an attempt to fulfill our National League dreams. Unfortunately a disappointing first half of the season along with COVID-19 conspired to throw the season off track. The season ultimately ended in relegation but was a great experience for all involved.

2018/19

This season saw a big changeover in players in the club and continued success was always going to be difficult, especially with the men playing in the higher division. With this in mind, the men (after a tough start) found their feet in the new year and managed to win enough matches to ensure their survival in NVL Division 2 South for the 2019/20 season.

2017/18

With a year more experience under their belts, promotion was now on the minds of the players. The men's successes in their University competitions were mirrored in National League where they had an amazing season, losing just one game all year and topping the table, earning themselves automatic promotion. The women had another very strong season and moved up the table but unfortunately missed out on promotion after finishing 3rd.

2016/17

Both the men's and women's teams began their respective seasons confident but also without any experience of playing in this competition. However, this was no issue with the teams showing how far the University club has come over the last few years. The men had a great season only just missing out on the opportunity to get promoted after finishing in  3rd. The women also had a great season and finished mid-table with a 6th place finish.
